The Push and Pull Factors of Joining Juvenile Gangs
The study aims to explore the factors which attract young people to join and make them leave juvenile gangs. It also looks into the feeling, perceptions, aspirations and needs of past and present gangs members. Through in-depth case studies, 42 ex-gang members were interviewed. The findings on how gang members entered the gangs, their behavioral patterns, the power and relationship inside the gangs, feelings about gang activities and behavior and the perception of their family, school and work among the gang members shed light for better understanding of juvenile gangs in Hong Kong.
