The use of common law is one of the major characteristics of the legal system in Hong Kong. Notions such as independent judiciary, separation of powers and presumption of innocence, however, are alien to Chinese beliefs in the destined absolute rule of the emperor. This study looks into the legal knowledge, legal conceptions and confidence in the judiciary for young people in Hong Kong. Result of the findings suggests that it is essential to promote legal education and awareness for youths.
