In mid-December 1993, the Government of Hong Kong announced a proposal to set up an old-age pension scheme which triggered off a heated debate in the society. This study finds out that young people have a strong sense of self-reliance. Over one-quarter of the respondents had taken action to plan their finance after retirement. They have divided opinions on the proposed old-age pension scheme.
