Voting Intentions of Young People

Young people aged between 18 and 20 are new eligible voters and those between 21 and 23 are entitled to their maiden votes after the 1991 direction elections. This study looks at their propensity to register and to vote, the perceived political influence of voters, party effects, political party ratings and recognition of legislative councillors. The survey reflects a significant relationship between youngsters’ voting intention and the perceived influence of their votes.
