A Survey of Digital Reading by Youth

17 July 2014

The Youth Research Centre conducted a survey between June and July on youth’s e-reading behaviour.  A total of 522 young people aged 10-24 were successfully polled through a territory-wide random sampling telephone survey.

The Survey found that an overwhelming majority of the respondents had practised e-reading in the past 12 months.  On average, they spent 86 minutes on e-reading a day.  Most of them used their mobile phones to do so.  For enjoyabililty, respondents gave e-reading 6.3 points out of 10.  Over 70% thought the availability of digital material could increase the breadth of their reading and over 60% said they would read more as a result.
