Challenges and Opportunities: Hong Kong’s Role as a Super-connector

The Youth I.D.E.A.S. (established by HKFYG Youth Research Centre) has released its ninth study on “Challenges and Opportunities: Hong Kong’s Role as a Super-connector”.  Data gathered during an online survey found that 47.9% think that the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) would be beneficial to the economy of Hong Kong while only 29.8% of the 543 young people surveyed said that BRI would be beneficial to their own career development.  Overall speaking, only 35.2% of them are interested in acquiring more information on BRI.

Focus group discussions with 21 young people were carried out to understand their knowledge on BRI and their willingness to understand foreign cultures.

The study found that the biggest challenge faced by Hong Kong if it is to become a Super-connector of BRI is that its people is not familiar with most BRI countries.  Young people also worried that the international status of Hong Kong would deteriorate which may affect the connector role of Hong Kong.
