“Co-Living: An Alternative Hong Kong Housing Solution for Youth?”

The Youth I.D.E.A.S. (established by HKFYG Youth Research Centre) has released its study on “Co-Living: An Alternative Hong Kong Housing Solution for Youth?”.

Data gathered from 520 Hong Kong youth aged from 18 to 30 showed that 25.6% of respondents said they would consider living in co-living spaces. The major reasons were “saving the rental cost” (61.0%) and “expanding my own living space” (41.1%). However, 68.3% said they would not consider living in co-living spaces. The major concern was “lack of privacy” (60.6%).

This report recommended that the government should develop co-living as one of the short-term housing solution for the youth in Hong Kong. It also recommended that the government should implement a co-living trial scheme through better utilization of spare resources and vacant buildings.
