Press Briefing on “Engaging Young People in National Development"

Since the reform and opening-up of the country, there have been achievements in various fields, but also significant challenges. As part of the country, Hong Kong has benefited from the country's development and has made its own contributions to the national development process. Under the principle of "One Country, Two Systems," Hong Kong has a close relationship with the national development. The country has provided clear positioning for Hong Kong to better integrate into the overall national development in various policy documents. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. The young generation in Hong Kong shoulders important responsibilities in national development. It is timely and important to explore their views on their relationship with national development, their intentions to participate in national construction, and their evaluation of the current measures for youth participation. These issues deserve attention from everyone concerned about youth development, the future of Hong Kong, and the prospects of the country.

The Youth Development Group of the Youth I.D.E.A.S. established by the Youth Research Center of the HKFYG released a research report on "Engaging young People in National Development". The results revealed that among the 520 young people surveyed in Hong Kong, 68.5% believe that national development is related to themselves. 46.5% expressed interest in understanding national development. They believe that the country has made significant progress in various fields in recent years, including technology (65%), economy (28.7%), infrastructure (23.1%), sustainable development (15.2%), and sports (14.2%). 71.0% have confidence in the prospects of national development, and 38.1% hope to participate in it.

The study was conducted through on-site questionnaire surveys. It interviewed 520 young people aged 15 to 34 from March 29th to April 2nd this year. Additionally, 18 young individual cases who participated in national development in different forms, as well as
