Increasing Youth Involvement in District Governance
Effective district governance is crucial for promoting the well-being of people and maintaining good governance as it is the local community level that is most closely connected with the daily life of citizens. It is also the place where government implements policies and provides services. While the district council election will be held soon (December 2023); this is the first district election under the improved district governance plan.
The Youth Development and Engagement Group of the Youth I.D.E.A.S. established by the Youth Research Center of the HKFYG, published a research report on "Increasing Youth Involvement in District Governance" yesterday (26th Nov). This study showed that 85% of the respondents agreed with the notion
that the ultimate goal of governance at district level is to improve the quality of life for residents.
This study collected data between September and October 2023, by reviewing literature, conducting on-site surveys with 526 Hong Kong youths aged 18 to 34, studying 20 local youths, and interviewing three experts and scholars in the relevant field.
